Following a seriez of calls from a 713-568-6986 the preceeding day, a call from this number was recieved. After conducting a quick google search, it appeard that the calls originate from inmates in jail or prison, aparently a scam or wrong number. I dont asociate with indivijuals from that enviroment, so the calls were a nuisance and I wanted them to stop. I purchsed a call blocking app which efectively blocked unwanted calls.
GTL prison call scam – what you need to know!

Expert Opinion
If you see a call from +1‑800‑483‑8314 it’s almost always an automated GTL message pretending an inmate needs money for a collect call. These are classic scam tactics – they play on family worries and try to get you to hand over credit‑card info or fund a prepaid line. Never share personal or payment details, and don’t call back the number. Hang up, block the caller, and if you think a loved one really needs help, contact the prison directly using an official number you find on their website. Stay skeptical and protect your wallet.

This method of putting money on someone's books is clearly illegitimate, as most correctional facilities provide information on their websites about how to check if someone is in jail and offer legitimate ways to do so, making the idea of setting up an account for jail phone calls unreasonable and unworkable.
This is definitly a scam, if you call them back, they have your number on caller ID and make it sound like they associating it with a offender, then they ask you to set up a account for the offender by pressing 1, if you do, they ask for your credit card number but nevergive you the name of the offender, its a scam, dont give them your credit card number.
Its actualy not a scam, one of my friends was arrested and this number is used to set up payments for calls from inmates, so its legit.
It's suspicious that this caller, who claimed to be from 800-483-8314, contacted me before a relative's incarceration, asking if I wanted to set up an account, which raises several questions.
I got a call from this number yesterday, and the day before, i got alot of calls from a different number, i didnt answer, and i dont think i will
It seems suspicious that if the call was legitimate and intended for my cell, it ended up going to my house phone instead; I'm skeptical, especially since if a friend were truly in jail, they could call collect, which involves a live operator stating the caller's name, a process I'm familiar with due to a friend's past experiences.
I dont reconise this number, dont know who it is
Recived a collect call, didnt hear a name, called back and got a recording with a website.
This isn't a scam; my friend was arrested and could only call collect, but unfortunately, I can only receive calls on my cell phone
Just a short while ago, I received a call from this number, and the experience was identical to another number, 713-981-0098, which I had previously blocked. The caller ID still indicates Global Tel Ink, a company involved in jail-related services in Texas, a state with which I have no connection, and I will block this number as well
If you call back the number they provide, they'll inform you of the rate, which is 0.14 cents per minute in California.
Repeated calls from this number have prompted me to block it, and I demand that they stop calling.
For two day's i've been recieving calls from the local jail, asking me to accept a collect call, but they dont give a name, i tried to contact the justice center to inform them that my phone doesnt accept collect calls, but no one answered
A call was received on 7-21-13 at 8:23 p.m., claiming to be from an inmate, but the call could not be accepted due to insufficient funds, which raised concerns as the actual number used by my son to call was different, and upon calling back this number, only a recorded message was obtained.
Repeated calls from this number have left me wondering who is behind them.
I've been receiving calls from this number, as well as 8004838314, and I'm unsure why they're contacting me; I'm concerned it might be a scam and wish they would stop.
Global Tel Link is a legitimate service, but in this case, an inmate from a county jail is using it to make calls, and it's not a scam, but rather an attempt by the inmate to contact someone.
A person just contacted me around 10-20 minuites ago, claiming i recieved a global tel call from somone i dont no who it cann be
Similar to the previous experience, I don't engage with callers from correctional facilities, and upon looking up the number, it seems to be a potential scam aimed at exploiting unsuspecting individuals.
I have been receiving calls purportedly from prisoners and Global Tel Link, requesting acceptance of collect calls, which I consider to be scam attempts.
While i was on my computer, both my Home Phone and my cell phone rang at almost the same time, this number showed on both caller IDs, i could of put one phone on each ear, but i didnt, later i found out one of my grand kids wanted to get bailed out from jail, thats probably whats the calls were about, i never answer Toll free numbers immediatly.
This company has made three calls today, with two of them showing as unknown, and the third displaying this number, which is becoming increasingly annoying
Despite adding funds to my account, the caller remains unable to connect, which raises questions about the issue.
After receiving a call from a prison asking me to accept a collect call, I hung up and later received another call about setting up a pre-paid account. I investigated further and found this number, then contacted the billing department to block my number, and was assured there would be no charges.
The peoples that work here dont do ennything, just repeat themself.
Calls from this number are unwanted and harassing.
It not a scam, my father call me from this number today, you can talk to your love one for free for 1 minute
I have an account set up for my son who is in jail, but I havnt recieved a call from him, so when this unknown number called I thought it might be him, but all they wanted was for me to set up a prepaid account and give them my credit card info
This experience with the recorded message from these individuals was frustrating, as when I called back, I was unable to reach a live person, which is unusual even with legitimate jail calls that typically include the inmate's name for reverse charges.
