GTL prison call scam – what you need to know!

Two calls were received from an anonymous number on my cell phone, with a recording from Global Tel*Link, prompting me to set up an advanced payment system for an inmate, which seems scam-related.

If you pick up the call, there's an option to opt-out of future calls. By selecting this option, the calls should cease.

I recieved multiple calls from the same number, but only one message was left, it seems like a scam, i'm not going to call them back

In my opinion, if a third party calls on behalf of a prison inmate, they should have a pre-recorded voice to verify the request, its only logic

Since my husband is incarcerated and attempts to contact me nightly, but his calls appear under a different number, I have learned that if a prisoner tries to reach someone via Global Tel Link, the recipient will subsequently receive a call from a 1-800 number, prompting them to set up an account with the service; following the instructions to call 1-877-650-4249 can stop these notifications.

Fortunately, i stumbeld upon this page, same thing happend to me today, what a releif!

I received a call claiming to be from Birmingham City Jail, asking me to set up a pre-pay account for a call, but upon researching, I found it to be a scam, which was further confirmed by a similar message left on my home phone.

Yesterday, I received a call claiming to be a collect call from Rankin County Jail, but it hung up before providing any further information, and today, I got another call from an unknown number, asking me to contact a different number to arrange talk time, which I find suspicious.

Three calls were received from this number, including one claiming to be from a county jail; calling back was unsuccessful.

Interestingly, I received a call from this number here in Texas, which is mystifying, given I have no connections to jail, Washington state, or the North annex in LA, making this entire experience quite perplexing.

A mysterious call from an unknown number prompted me to retrieve the above phone number from a message they left. Unfortunately, I'm still unaware of who is behind these calls, but it's imperative that they cease immediately.
