GTL prison call scam – what you need to know!
Summary — +18004838314
Expert Opinion
If you see a call from +1‑800‑483‑8314 it’s almost always an automated GTL message pretending an inmate needs money for a collect call. These are classic scam tactics – they play on family worries and try to get you to hand over credit‑card info or fund a prepaid line. Never share personal or payment details, and don’t call back the number. Hang up, block the caller, and if you think a loved one really needs help, contact the prison directly using an official number you find on their website. Stay skeptical and protect your wallet.

Calls from this number claim an inmate named Joe is attempting to contact me, which appears to be a scam, as I have no known association with anyone by that name in San Francisco
This number has been calling repeatedly over the past two days, leaving voicemails claiming an inmate is trying to reach me and asking me to set up an account and provide credit card information. However, the process for inmate calls is not this way, and inmates must fund their own calls. It seems like a scam targeting people with loved ones who have been in trouble, but thankfully, it's easy to see through. The call backs asked for a 513 or 531 area code initially. What a lame attempt!
Apparently, this is an INMATE SCAM!!!, recieved a call from the county jail from an inmate requesting I acept the call
A suspicious message from this number followed an attempted collect call, seeking billing information under the guise of facilitating calls from a correctional facility, which is a clear indication of a scam, as legitimate communication from such facilities would not operate in this manner.
This is a scam
Over the course of two days, I received two missed calls from a number identified as Tel*link, which is associated with Global Tel-link. When I redialed the number, it directed me to an automated service for setting up an account. Instead, I contacted GTL's customer service, and they were able to identify the correctional facility that had made the calls. After some investigation, I discovered that an old friend was being housed there and had been trying to reach me. This is not spam, but rather a matter of doing some detective work.
