However, upon finally answering, I discovered it was the collections department of Barclays, specifically regarding my Barclaycard credit card. It turned out I had missed a payment, and they were trying to collect to bring my account up to date. They waived the penalty after I made a payment. It's worth noting that simply answering the phone can resolve the issue. The representative clearly stated who they were and verified my identity without requesting personal information. They also shared the information they had on file for me, including my delinquent credit card details. If someone immediately asks for your social security number, it's likely a red flag. In my case, the person was professional and courteous, which motivated me to share this experience.
