Expert Opinion
Never trust a surprise legal‑threat call without verification. Scam callers often pretend to be lawyers or debt collectors, use urgent language, and demand a callback to a short‑lived number. Ask for the firm’s name, bar number, and case details; then independently look them up before sharing any personal info. Hang up if the caller refuses to provide verifiable credentials, and block the number on your device. Report the incident to the FTC, your state attorney general, and the phone carrier. Keep a log of dates, scripts, and voicemail clips; this helps authorities track patterns and protects you from future scam attempts.
