Nielsen survey calls – what you need to know

Expert Opinion
Yesterday afternoon, a wave of voicemail prompts from 877‑255‑7551 claimed to represent a TV‑and‑radio ratings firm. Callers identified themselves as Arbitron or Nielsen and asked recipients to call back for a short household survey, occasionally dangling small cash incentives. While the organization behind the calls—Nielsen, which acquired Arbitron—does conduct legitimate audience research, the script often sounds canned and the follow‑up calls can feel pushy. Verify the caller by checking Nielsen’s official contact numbers on their website before returning the call. Never share personal finance details with unsolicited callers, and if the conversation turns to “yes/no” tricks or offers that sound too good, hang up. Report persistent or suspicious calls to the FTC.

Recent Reports for (877) 255-7551
Numerous calls have been received from this number, which is allegedly associated with Nielsen, and the caller claims to have been trying to contact me due to a survey on TV and radio, requesting a callback.
Initially, a letter from Nielsen was received, followed by a call that went to voicemail, and after research, it seemed legitimate, but the conversation raised suspicions
It seem like a scam to me, the person on the recording was reading from a script and didnt sound profesional at all.
A correction is needed: the correct spelling is 'Nielsen', not 'Nielson'.
After participating in a survey about media consumption, I received a dollar bill and was promised additional compensation from Nielson, which had acquired Arbitron.
On Tuesday, 31 May 2017, at 11:08 am, I received a call from a number with the caller ID 'TOWSON MD'; the message left was an invitation to participate in radio and TV rating surveys for Nielsen.
I called the Arbitron number back, got a recording askin if I wanted to go to Florida or somethin, didnt answer and it discoonected me
I received a call from 410-312-8222, prompting me to call Arbitron at 877-255-7551. After reviewing comments from others who participated in the survey, I decided it was not worthwhile. My primary consumption is of PBS and NPR content, which relies on listener donations rather than commercial advertising.
This number 410-312-8222 keeps calling me alot
It's appalling that some individuals, like Bill, spread misinformation; Arbitron, a company with over 60 years of history, has no connection to Durham & Durham Law firm, and taking their survey has no legal implications.
Bill, you are compleatly mistaken, Arbitron has been arond for over 60 yrs and has no conection to Durham & Durham Law firm
The number they gave me to call back was 1-410-312-8222, somthing about a survey, but i saw somthing on another blog that seemed pretty scarey
Legitimate calls are made to determine television and radio show ratings, which influence advertising dollars and may lead to show cancellations
A message was left on my machine from a claimed Arbitron representative, requesting I return their call to participate in a local radio and television survey, which seemed unusual given the instructions.
