ERG debt collector calls – how to protect yourself!

Expert Opinion
Picture your phone lighting up with a call from +1‑877‑528‑5852, and the voice immediately says they’re from a court or a debt collector. In reality, the number is tied to ERG, a debt‑collection firm that often masks its purpose with legal‑sounding scripts. Before sharing any personal or banking details, request a written validation of the debt and verify the caller’s license with your state’s regulator. If the calls persist, send a cease and desist letter and block the number using your carrier’s tools or a third‑party app. Report repeated harassment to the FTC, your state attorney general, and consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Following numerous requests to cease contact, ERG continues to harass my workplace, falsely claiming to be from the county court office. The receptionist, who shares my first name, is subjected to constant and rude harassment. Despite having nearly two years to contact me, they failed to do so via phone or email, even after I requested they send the loan agreement to my email, which was never received. Their demeanor changed significantly when I asked for proof of their legitimacy as the original lender, which I have been unable to verify. It appears they have no right to misrepresent themselves or harass my workplace.
