Callers often claim they’re following up on an online request for a contract, fibre upgrade or phone purchase, but they rarely stay on the line long enough to talk. If you didn’t expect a call, let it go to voicemail and verify the request by logging into your Telkom account or calling the official customer service number. Never hand over banking details or OTP codes to a stranger, especially when the conversation ends after a few seconds. When the call is just a silent call or a quick sales pitch, hanging up and blocking the number is usually the safest move.
After applying for a Telkom phone, they called me. I got approved, and the man requested my bank info plus confirmed an OTP on Friday, 08 July. But today, 11 July, when I checked with Telkom, they saw no record, just a rejected application.
Claimed to be Telkom representative. Inquired about knowing a certain individual with an unfamiliar name. I denied it. He apologized for the mix-up, then thanked me oddly for taking the Telkom call, unlike anything I've heard from them. Felt suspicious, like a fabricated tale to trick me into thinking it's legitimate. Ended the conversation quickly.
