Expert Opinion
Be wary of any unexpected call promising massive discounts or vouchers and demanding personal ID or bank details. Scammers often pose as representatives of companies like Global Travel or RTR Distributors to create a false sense of legitimacy. If a caller asks for sensitive information, hang up immediately and verify the claim through official channels. Never share your ID number or banking info over the phone unless you initiated the contact and are certain of the caller’s identity. Consider registering your number on a do‑not‑call list and report repeated harassment to the relevant consumer protection authority.

Fraud alert—they queried if I'd gotten my voucher, so I probed further. She stayed composed, provided my full name, but foolishly I shared my ID. When I asked the trick, she admitted a R99.99 fee to activate. I backed out then. These crooks siphon small sums under R100 from accounts.
Global travel—who are they? They hang up if you question them
Scam artists requesting ID and bank info, unable to answer basic queries. I ended the call, but they persisted in ringing.
Upon asking the GLOBAL TRAVEL rep how they acquired my number—given that my info is safeguarded under the POPI Act—and to which address they mailed the alleged 20,000 discount vouchers, the woman hung up. Initially, they referenced my valid SA cellphone and even my nickname. The only source for that detail is my cellphone provider, due to their administrative oversight on official docs.
Received a call offering 70% off at select shops, but they wanted my ID number—I refused to share.
Got a ring from them claiming I've scored a R19000 voucher; they only wanted my initials and ID, but I played dumb saying I forgot my ID. Now they're blowing up my phone nonstop. What's the deal with these characters?
Global Travel collaborates with RTR Distributors. They promise discounts up to 70% in Cape Town stores where we shop. They requested my ID and more info. I told them I'd verify first before sharing, and they disconnected.
