This call was regarding a small business survey, which, although harmless, is not mandatory, so a polite decline should suffice.

At 7pm, I received a call but didn’t pick up since it’s a Birmingham number, and I don’t know anyone in that area; also, no businesses call at that hour. I’ve blocked them.
Legitimacy of this caller is dubious, they claim to be conducting a survey and mentioned speaking to a old director 'recently', although they later admited it was back in 2019, so i asked them to stop calling

Aston University attempted to contact a senior staff member, but no one was available to discuss the services offered by our company; they promised to call back at a more convenient time.
Received a call the other day, and I answered because I thought HMRC might be using them for surveys. The caller claimed to be from Aston(?) University and something about Warwick. I answered her questions, even though I'm on the TPS, since surveys aren't covered. Came home to another call, though she mentioned they don't leave messages due to high call volumes - which makes sense. She didn't ask for personal details, just maybe my age, which I gave as a range.
The name Affinity Water was mentioned! !

Upon investigating a missed call from this number, it's unclear whether the calls are genuine or scams, as they could be from BMG or HMRC, but caution dictates not sharing personal information with unknown callers.
Why do they cold call TPS registered numbers?
A gentleman with a foreign accent, claiming to represent BMG on behalf of the British Bank, called to conduct a research survey, but we politely declined, as our company does not participate in phone surveys
A question arises for those who claim this is a legitimate market research company: what justification do they have for cold calling numbers registered with the TPS?
Following a call claiming to represent OFCOM, I informed them I would no longer accept such calls, prompting the caller to terminate the conversation abruptly.

It's worth noting that just because a call is unsollicited, it doesn't necesarily mean it's a scam. The caller is from BMG, a reputable research company that works with many buisnesses. If you're not interesed in particpating, a simple 'no thank you' will suffice. I've only come across this site because my mobile flagged this number as suspisous, and now I see why, given all the misinformed comments.
