An Indian‑accented lady from a noisy call centre mentioned my name and said she was with Green Energy – I hung up, mate.

Expert Opinion
Block any unknown numbers immediately to avoid wasting time on potential nuisances. These calls often push fake boiler grants from supposed energy firms, probing for personal details that could lead to identity theft. Hang up straight away if they ask for sensitive info like your address or bank details—legitimate outfits won't cold-call for that. Register with the Telephone Preference Service if you haven't already, and report persistent callers to Action Fraud. No need to engage; just verify grants through official government sites like GOV.UK. Staying vigilant keeps scammers at bay without hassle.

I didn't recognise the number, so I chose not to answer.
A voice claimed to represent Green Energy, addressing me with an old alias I'd once given a cold‑caller, which made it clear it was a bogus pitch. She said she was calling from Bolton despite the Birmingham area code, and told me my boiler was ineligible for a government grant before ending the call. My number is TPS‑registered.
Avoid this line – block the number!
A call about a "free boiler grant" from a so‑called "Green Energy" mobile number sounded dodgy, asked far too many personal questions – best to block it.
An unanswered ring, most likely just spam.
The phone flagged it as spam, which was enough for me; I blocked the number.
