I cut the call before hearing who it was, telling the caller I don’t want unsolicited calls on a bank holiday. She seemed unaware of the holiday, so she’s likely not from the UK.

Expert Opinion
Unsolicited calls from this number often push dubious compensation claims, fake refunds on old mortgages, or impersonate firms like BT to probe personal details. Scammers hang up when questioned, betraying their fraud with scripted patter and dodgy accents. Silent or abandoned calls are common tactics too, wasting time while scanning for active lines. Block the number straight away and report it to your provider or Action Fraud to curb the hassle. Never share info or confirm details—legit outfits won't pressure you like this. If in doubt, hang up and contact official sources directly for peace of mind.

They called to inform me about a refund from a mortgage I had "some years ago" where I apparently overpaid on the interest rate. When I asked for the provider's name, the line was disconnected.
When I answered, there was silence on the other side and the line soon cut out.
When I picked up, there was no reply and the call dropped.

The caller greeted me then the line dropped automatically; I’ve blocked the number.
Someone claimed to be from BT, wanting to discuss my internet service. Since I’m not a BT customer, I imagined a referee’s whistle blasting in his ear.
Two calls came in today. The first was cut off after I said the address wasn't mine. The second claimed to be from Energy Government and immediately asked if I receive any government benefits. When I asked the caller to repeat himself, the line was disconnected – not the bravest scammer, at least.
Numbers with a caller ID starting "0121 751" are being used for a variety of scams. One call, from "DCA Compensation", claimed I was eligible for a £2998 compensation payment; the Indian caller offered no explanation. I've had other fake compensation calls all quoting the same amount, which is an immediate red flag. I hung up at that point.
