Today, 7/10/15, I received a call from 01269849892. An Asian-sounding man insisted on speaking to my wife. I informed him she wasn’t available and asked what he wanted. Despite telling him my number is ex-directory, he persisted. I warned him not to call again. Clearly scammers.

Expert Opinion
Imagine picking up a call that greets you with silence before an Asian‑accented voice claims your broadband is about to be cut. Most of the reports describe a tech‑support scam that masquerades as BT or Openreach, often hanging up after a few seconds or delivering a pre‑recorded warning about internet disconnection. These calls frequently use silent or international caller‑ID labels to obscure the source. If you receive such a call, do not share personal details, hang up promptly and report the number to your phone provider’s spam‑blocking service. Regularly updating your caller‑ID filter and blocking the number can reduce future disturbances.

I’ve received frequent calls from this number over the past three weeks. I usually didn’t answer, but today at 12:40 pm, I did. There was a 5-second silence, then a 'Hello, Aron.' It turned out to be a friend from Australia! I’m unsure what’s going on with this number and whether I should worry.
This phone number appears when I receive calls from acquaintances, or instead of displaying their number, it shows 'no caller ID', even if they haven't selected this option on their phone. The purpose of this is unclear, but it's frustrating and worrying. This issue began on 30th March, around noon.
