Received a call pretending to be from BT, claiming it was a follow-up after a prior chat about my internet deal. Claimed to be from BT and that I'd contacted them! When I mentioned renewing my broadband deal, they inquired about the cost. I refused to tell them.

This seems like a genuine number to me. I got a follow-up ring from it. Probably EE. The caller knew my info and broadband payment amount. Even sent a security code. Issue is, he came across as unprofessional, and the background racket sounded like a scam operation abroad. He couldn’t assist – EE ought to improve their standards.
Contractors possibly linked to BT and EE might be behind this. However, they're not reliable! BT/EE are problematic on their own, yet external contractors often lack strong vetting for staff. Such outsourced call centres are about as secure as the Titanic post-iceberg collision. Send a text with call info from this number to 7726 to report it. Look for a confirmation reply, as you might have to verify the submission. Afterwards, block the number.
Grew wary since, despite claiming BT follow-up, they knew nothing of my BT setup. Withheld personal details though they used my name. Display showed BT. These fraudsters are sly and smart. Verified and blocked the number.

Clear scammer, answered and silence, so I hung up sharpish.
Someone left a voicemail claiming BT could take my number off a list and promising a follow-up. The voice resembled the standard BT automated message, and my phone didn't flag it as spam, showing how sophisticated they are. She offered to call again or press 1 to speak immediately, which I did. But then I heard chaotic background noise like a busy call centre, so I ended the call right away.
Two rings today from this number, shown as 'BT'. Ended when I picked up.
Phoned me yesterday and today; when I answered, they disconnected. Called back and it identified as BT. Definitely a scam.
