This number has rang me 3 times this month alone, apparantly its from E.on trying to convience me to change my meter, but luckily an electrician told me to ingore it, alot of peoples post say you dont have to switch to smart meter, im more worried about the £2k+ they owe me

Belief is that it may be legitimate. I have repeatedly requested E-on Next not to contact me and expressed my disinterest in a smart meter. Shortly after a silent call from this number, I received a text from another number, which included a verifiable E-on contact: “Hi, We called to upgrade your meter, it has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced, please call us back on 01443544985 E.ON Next.”
The caller, who claimed to be from Eon regarding my smart meter, had a rather unusual accent. I informed him that I dont conduct business over the phone and requested he send me an email instead; I was puzzled as to how he had obtained my home landline number, to which he replied it was listed on my account!
During lunch, the phone rang but there was only silence when answered, so it was blocked.

Apparently, the caller claimed to be from Eon Next regarding "meter recertification", but when asked to verify their identity, a circular argument ensued, ending with them suggesting to send a email, which is easly spoofable, and they got defensive when I sugested a letter as a more reliable proof of identity.
