Expert Opinion
Picture this: your phone rings from an unfamiliar number, and the caller knows your name or probes about your military background. Reports highlight persistent calls from this source, often with an Indian accent, falsely claiming ties to National Grid or ex-Forces inquiries. These are classic scam tactics designed to extract personal details or push bogus energy deals. Hang up immediately—never confirm info or engage. Block the number and report to Action Fraud. To safeguard privacy, register with the Telephone Preference Service and use call-blocking apps. Stay vigilant; scammers thrive on surprise.

Got a call on my mobile on 13 June asking if anyone was ex‑Forces; I hung up and blocked the number, cheers.
I received a call on my landline yesterday, then another on my mobile today, and they even knew my first name. It makes me wonder how much personal data these callers possess!
Got a call on my mobile on 2 June 2025 – the bloke instantly asked if my name was …xxxxx (spot on!). I was livid, demanded to know how he sourced my number. He dodged, then tried to ask if I was with the Armed Forces – I cut him off straight away, told him to delete my details, and he hung up. Clearly a scam with a strong Indian accent, mate.
Power fraud.
A fraudster posed as a National Grid representative, claiming energy costs were rising, when in fact they're falling – lol.
Definitely a scammer, innit.
