Telephone Preference Service scam – protect yourself!
Summary — +441615201229
Expert Opinion
Undoubtedly fraudulent, this number is being used for a range of impersonation scams, from fake Sky broadband alerts to bogus Amazon Prime charges. Callers typically claim to represent the Telephone Preference Service, banks, or utility firms, then pressure you for personal or payment details. Spoofed origins make tracing difficult, so treat any unexpected request for card numbers or verification as suspicious. Hang up immediately, block the caller on your device, and report the number to your phone provider and the TPS. Regularly review your consent lists and enable any available caller‑ID authentication to reduce future exposure.

No idea who this caller is, but it seems suspicious and likely a scam.
Caution is needed
This number is associated with a scam, and the callers can be quite aggressive over the phone.
Call from an Indian call centre. They scammed my 91-year-old father with the 'verify your card' and 'refund for fraud' lines. They seem to have stolen BT customer data.
El centro de llamadas es una estafa, intentan obtener números de tarjeta y realizar transacciones, así que ten cuidado
I consider this number dangerous and would also label it as despicable. "Charles" called me moments ago, claiming to be from the TPS and inquiring if I received unwanted calls! When I asked him for more information about his call, he responded with a condescending "listen to me Madam" tone. Upon challenging his authenticity, he stated, "I know your postcode" and recited it back to me. The call ended shortly thereafter. I checked the TPS website and found they do not contact customers in this manner. Avoid answering; it's clearly a scam.
No reply was given despite my repeated greetings
I was out when the call came through to my Somerset number, so I missed it
Two posts below this one outline steps to prevent these scam calls.
The caller pretended to represent the Telephone Preference Service, claiming I would no longer receive unwanted calls, but their aggressive tone and request for personal details raised red flags, and I terminated the conversation.
A previous call from this number claimed to be from Virgin, offering a lower mobile rate, but they hung up before saying anything this time
Received two calls today from this number, which I didn’t recognize, so I chose not to answer.
This is a scammer, my answer machine picked up and the caller immediatly hung up
Visa card scam attempt
This is clearly a scam number. Refer to the post below for details on how to report it. Be cautious as scammers use millions of fake UK landline and mobile numbers generated by computers, making blocking ineffective. Some systems have limited blocking capacity and stop working once the limit is reached. We need to act to prevent criminals from using fake numbers, including spoofed UK business numbers, often calling from outside the UK. Contact your MP to inquire about parliamentary actions to compel phone companies to implement technology to stop these scams. The US is adopting 'Caller ID Authentication' to combat such fraud.
