PayPal phishing alert – watch out for Dan Locke scams!

Expert Opinion
Check the sender's address before you click any link. Many users report receiving identical PayPal‑style emails that reference a Sheffield number and request payment for £35.85 or £50 to "Dragon Balls" or a "Brakes Group". These messages are classic phishing attempts, often signed off by the fictitious "Dan Locke". Verify any PayPal communication by opening a new browser window or the official app, never via the email link. Report the fraudulent address to PayPal’s spoof team and consider flagging the phone number with your carrier. Keep your passwords unique, enable two‑factor authentication, and regularly review recent transactions for unauthorised activity.

Like others, I received this email. I was immediately wary, so I checked my PayPal account directly without clicking the link. No £50 transaction found. It was alarming, thinking my account was hacked. Always verify through official channels before clicking links, especially for unauthorised transactions. The email looked genuine, but since I'd recently used PayPal, I could verify. Others might fall for it. Disgraceful.
