BT upgrade scam – what to watch out for!
Summary — +441916719997
Expert Opinion
Repeated reports show the 01916 719997 number is repeatedly used for fake BT calls, often pretended upgrades or PPI offers. Callers typically ask for account details, passwords or personal data, then hang up or disappear. Never disclose passwords or personal information to unsolicited callers, even if they mention your name or reference a recent service. If the call is silent or the message vague, let it go to voicemail and verify the request by calling the official BT 0800 number yourself. Use call‑blocking apps, report the number to Action Fraud and consider filing a complaint with your phone provider to curb future scams.

Beware of this scam number; a detailed explanation of how to report it can be found in a separate post, and it's essential to be aware that these scammers utilise a vast array of fake UK landline and mobile numbers generated by computers, rendering blocking ineffective; the key to stopping these criminals lies in implementing technology to prevent such calls, as seen with the USA's 'Caller ID Authentication' initiative, and contacting your MP to push for action

Broadband scam
I had a helpful conversation with a representative from the Energy Advice Centre regarding boiler upgrades to reduce gas expenditure, and I've scheduled a free assessment to explore their services.
The number itself is a clear indicator. Too many repetitive digits. It's a fabricated number. If they refrain from leaving a message, it clearly isn't important to me.
A man identified himself as being from BT, asking if everything was fine and if we had the correct package. When he asked why I required broadband, he then requested the first line of my address. I provided it, but it didn't match his records as we had changed the house name years ago. He mentioned his screen was freezing and that he'd call back, but there was laughter in the background, sounding like a party. I doubt this is legitimate BT.
I've just recieved a call from a woman claiming to be from but. I informed her I was happy with my current package and didn't provide any details due to suspcious nature. She ended the call and I plan to block the number.

Received a call from this number, claiming to be from BT. When asked for the location, they said Sunderland, with a Geordie accent. They offered to email a pin for verification, but I insisted on contacting BT directly for any upgrades. The call seemed convincing, but the background noise suggested a lack of social distancing. Blocked the number.
Claimed to be from BT. This is the second scam call I've received today; I'm fed up with it.
I had been ignoring this number for a wile, it had been calling me alot in the latter half of last year, finaly answered it after a month of constant calling, spoke to a man who claimed to be from BT, he wanted to upgrade my broadband and ask me some intrusiv questions, I knew it was a scam from the start so I played along for a bit before telling him to leave me alone, now they've started calling me again and I'm shure they wont stop for months, totaly harrassing.

Recieved a call from landline 01916719997 - Harvey claimed to be from BT, asking about broadband issues due to the pandemic. He requested my full BT password, which I refused to provide, so he asked for two characters instead. I gave them to him, but he said they didn't match (though they were correct). I questioned why he was calling from Newcastle, and he explained that BT has multiple call centers across the UK. I suggested they should contact me via their 0800 number, which I believe is legitimate. He asked to call back due to my recent broadband issues, but I declined.
Didn't recognize the number; it was an announced call. A woman claimed to be from BT but didn't leave a message. I've blocked the number thanks to this page.

Claimed to be from BT. The call quality was very poor, and I know BT does not request information over the phone. Definitely a SCAM.
