Amex fraude team calld, sounded legit but was a scam

Fraudsters claimed they called because of suspicious activity on my account. After confirming my name, they started probing about my balance and the amount of my last transaction, then sent a code via SMS. When I asked to be emailed, the caller simply hung up.
