Water Policy Renewal Scam Alert!

Looks like a bogus plumbing insurance pitch – totally fishy, bro.

I didn’t pick up, and after verifying, it turned out to be a scam

They rang me about insurance for water pipe, saying they from Home Cover UK, representating Yorkshire Water, but when i check, Home Cover UK dont even have a website, and they say my policy is ending in 2 day, but i dont recall having one since 5th Dec 2021, when i question them, they say they will send me detail and then hang up.

A man claimed to be calling about drainage and plumbing insurance, allegedly on behalf of our local water provider, but his story seemed suspicious, and the call ended abruptly when I requested documentation

I received a call from this number on my mobile. A well-spoken man said my 'plumbing' insurance had expired. When I questioned him, he mentioned it was a 3-year policy. I asked when it was due and how much I paid, as I had no memory of it. He provided a figure and a date from November 2021, which sounded plausible. However, I keep track of my expenses and checked while keeping him on the line. There was no record of such a payment. When I asked who it was paid to, he said Southern Water, but that wasn't in my records. He quickly said it must have been an error on his end—I agree!

A convincing scammer attempted to renew a non-existent policy and requested bank details, citing a legal requirement not to store such information

During the conversation, a lady with good spoken English mentioned my plumbing insurance, which I don't possess, and struggled to respond to my queries

Thought it might be a scam, so avoided answering. Verified my doubts on Who called me.

A male caller offered to renew my insurance cover related to Scottish Water, quoting my home address and claiming a previous payment had been made via MasterCard, but I had no recollection of such a transaction and declined to engage further.
