Expert Opinion

Ever wondered why strangers keep claiming your computer is hacked and demanding immediate action? These calls are a classic tech‑support scam, where callers impersonate Microsoft or Windows support to pressure you into granting remote access or paying for bogus services. Never share personal details, passwords or payment information over the phone. Hang up immediately if the caller asks you to install software or visit a website you didn’t request. Register the number with the Telephone Preference Service, report the incident to Action Fraud, and consider blocking the number on your handset. Staying sceptical and informed is the best defence.

442036300338 Scam Windows technical dept (scam)

Jordan Williams, claiming to be from the Windows technical department, persistently requested that I turn on my computer, citing a supposed compromise; I declined to provide further information.

442036300338 Scam Windows Technical Dept (scam)

A man named Jordan, claiming to be from the Windows Technical Department, called from an international number. He asserted that my Windows 10 computer had been hacked and provided a number, 02036300338, claiming to be based in London at 100 Victoria St, SW1E 5JL. However, he explicitly stated he wasn’t affiliated with Microsoft. When I asked for his company name, he mentioned Online Technical Support. The call seemed to be coming from India, and he became aggressive and persistent, eventually hanging up. This at least prevented him from targeting others. However, I’m still receiving harassment from this number, including a call from someone named John. I requested to have my details removed, but so far, no resolution.

442036300338 Scam Windows Tech Support (scam)

Like others have mentioned, I received a call from a man named Max Johnston with a strong accent claiming to be from Windows Tech Support. He was condescending and aggressive, urging me to log into my computer while he was on the line. I mentioned I would have a colleague help me with the obsolete files next week, but he insisted it was urgent and that my computer would fail by the weekend. When I inquired if he represented Microsoft, he evasively replied, "Microsoft and Windows are the same thing". I'm relieved to see this forum confirming it's a scam.

Great to hear about the news today regarding the director of one of these companies being fined £400,000. It’s illegal to cold call without consent. Why didn’t this happen sooner?

442036300338 Scam

In a notable development, it was the company itself that faced a fine, rather than the director, and unfortunately, the company has since entered administration, complicating any potential recovery of funds; however, there is a proposal under consideration to hold directors of such companies personally liable in the future.
