O2 impersonation scam – how to spot the red flags

A promotion supposedly from EE's head office was offered, but the caller failed to provide any security checks; when I mentioned I'm not an EE customer, they attempted to switch to an O2 promotion, revealing a clear lack of credibility

This spam call pretended to be from o2, attempting to upgrade my sim and asking security questions to access my email and o2 account.

They claimed to be from 02/Virgin, so i played along, but when they asked for my email, i told them they were a scam and they became abusive, calling me a B*t*h before hanging up!

I recieved a suspicous call from this number, the person on the other end was pretending to be a lawyer, but i could barely make out what he was saying

After receiving a call from this number and stating I wasn't with O2, the caller insulted me.

A convincing offer was made, claiming to be from 02/Virgin, with a new phone and unlimited data, but luckily, I checked the number online and avoided a potencial scam, it's always best to be cautious with these kinds of offers

Call went directly to missed calls, identity unknown. Now blocked.

The number +442039898556 is reportedly used by scammers posing as O2/Virgin

Immediately ended the call as the caller's identity was unknown, raising concerns about potential danger

They purport to be O2-Virginmedia, claiming to send a new sim card due to numerous complaints (line drop/internet issues), explained the merger and its problems. Transferred the call to 'Kelvin', a senior supervisor, but I could hear the handover in the background - seeking to progress and asking for my email. They became aggressive when I couldn't provide it immediately. I requested proof of their O2 affiliation, which led to them getting very hostile - insisting on the information, before cursing and terminating the call.

Didn't answer this call as the number wasn't recognised. Marked it as a scam following a similar call yesterday from a Birmingham area code.

A woman with an Asian accent introduced herself as Edna, but that was all I could make out. Now blocked.

Clearly a scam. A man with a strong Indian accent asked if I was happy with my O2 contract. I’ve never been an O2 customer. He then apologised, saying his system must be wrong, and asked if I was a Virgin Media customer. I said no and hung up.

Scam attempt: Claimed to be from 02, but I don't own a mobile. They were confused and hung up.

Since the switchover from Virgin to O2, I've been bombarded with gupta calls, all claiming to be from O2, it's as if they're selling our numbers to the highest bidder, I'll be switching to Vodafone as soon as my contract allows, in hopes of better data security, and hopefully fewer scam calls

An Indian lady, pretending to be from O2, called me yesterday, trying to gain access to my email account by asking for a Microsoft code

An Indian woman called, warning my SIM would soon be canceled and offering a 40% discount on a 5G SIM. She transferred me to a man who requested my email to send a code. Sensing a scam, I provided a fake email, which angered him. He insulted me, so I hung up and contacted O2. They advised that legitimate callers should verify their identity and your details.

My phone identified this as a potential scam call, which I did not answer, and no voicemail was left, confirming my suspicions and prompting me to block the number

My husband received multiple calls from 02039898556, unfortunately providing them with information, and now we're struggling to access his email account; we're extremely concerned

I have received multiple calls from individuals with south Asian accents, pretending to represent O2 and Virgin, and when I inform them I am not a customer, they inquire about my broadband services, clearly attempting to scam me; I usually disregard calls from unknown numbers, but occasionally I engage with them and respond firmly before blocking the number, so be cautious!

The caller was pretty persistant but didnt answer because it wasnt recognisable to me, probaly another scam i beleive
