Chinese Embassy scam calls – how to protect yourself!
Summary — +442072994049
Expert Opinion
Imagine receiving a Mandarin‑spoken message claiming you have urgent documents at the Chinese Embassy. Most reports flag the number as a scam, with callers impersonating officials to harvest personal details. Avoid answering unknown numbers that display a foreign embassy name, and never disclose passport numbers, credit‑card data or any personal information. If a voicemail references legal trouble or financial crime, treat it as suspicious and block the caller. Report the number to your mobile provider and, where appropriate, to Action Fraud. Consider registering your contact details with the Telephone Preference Service to reduce unsolicited calls, and always verify any embassy contact through the official website before taking action.

Recieved a suspicous call claiming my passport had been stolen and sold, they requested my passport number, total scam! Blocked it immedietly.
Scam alert: they pretended to be a bank and asked for my account number. Definitely fraudulent.
Obviously, this is a scam and you should be cautious not to answer the call or provide any informations. I recieved a call from a mobile number with an automated machine voice in Mandarin, asking me to press 8 for detials. A young male voice answered and claimed he was from the Chinese Embassy in London, stating that they had recieved a confidential document that needed to be picked up in person or verified my ID to ensure I was the recipent to open the document and scan and send it to me. I told him I would call him back to give him the info as I was suspisous about who he was. He sounded very understanding and asked me to call him back on this number, which appeard to be a genuine Chinese Embassy London number, but when I dailed back the number, no one answered the call. It's a scam!!! Don't give any of your informations!
The scam call asked for personal info right away—definitely a red flag.

Scam attempts
Obviousley a scam call
A scammer, claiming to represent the Chinese Embassy, contacted me using this number, speaking non-standard Chinese in an attempt to defraud Chinese students in the UK.
This is a scam, the guy doesnt speak proper mandarin, his statments dont make sence
I received calls from different mobile numbers (07285362865, 07542799989, 07787771750) claiming to be from the Chinese embassy, stating they had a document to send me. Pressing 9 was supposed to provide more information, but it just transferred me regardless of the button pressed. A very polite individual, who I suspect is the same person since I answered most times out of curiosity, would respond and ask how he could assist. Regardless of my reason (waiting for a document or visa delivery), he always requested my passport number, which I do not possess (I am not from PRC). If I spoke in English, he would hang up. I asked for a callback number with my 'passport number', and he provided 02072994049, which I later found linked to a SCAM call with unclear motives.
That call was suspicious; sounded like a scam trying to get personal info.
Scam attempt where they claimed I owed money and demanded immediate payment. I reported it.
Since I didn’t answer, the number showed up as a telemarketer.
This is definitely a scam call.
Got a call, followed by a voice message. Someone answered, I played a trick on them, and they hung up. Tried calling back, no answer. Something's off.
I was contacted on two consecutive days, firstly by a recorded message claiming to be from the Chinese embassy, stating I had documents there, and I immediatly hung up; the next day, I was suprised when they called again, but I didnt answer, thankfully
It’s clearly a scam or phishing attempt. They claimed to be from the Chinese Embassy, warning about an expired document and told me to press 1 for the call centre. I pressed 1 out of curiosity. When connected, I asked where they were calling from, and the caller hung up without responding.
