Expert Opinion

Patterns in user reports reveal a consistent scam tactic involving follow-up calls after declined fraudulent texts. Scammers pose as bank representatives to probe for security details, exploiting recent debit card issues like the £16.03 fraud mentioned. Victims wisely refuse to answer questions, preventing further loss. Hang up immediately on unsolicited calls claiming card problems, and contact your bank directly using the number on your card or app. Never share PINs, passwords, or verification codes. Report suspicious activity to Action Fraud and your provider to block numbers. This approach safeguards accounts from escalating threats.

442080400516 Scam Bank Of Scotland

Got a message on 20.05.25 from +44 7394 284125 saying: "Bank of Scotland: Your debit card attempt at 18:11:24 for £327.26 at Asda.com was declined. Reply Y if it was you, N if not." I hit ‘N’ and then an English lady called from 0208 040 0516, claiming another £500 charge to Florence Cross. I denied it and refused her security questions. Meanwhile, my account had already been hit with a £16.03 fraud from Eneba.com the day before, which I’d reported and had the card cancelled, mate.

Looks like a scam – a call that follows a declined fake payment text labelled "NOT KNOWN", then questions why you turned it down… 💯💯💯, cheers.
