Microsoft support scam – what to watch out for!

The caller, claiming to be Victoria Xia from online support, insisted my computer had issues that needed fixing, providing multiple numbers, including 00191777990 and 02081444008, in an attempt to appear legitimate, but the persistence and request for information were clear indicators of a scam.

Initially, this began as a purported Microsoft Support call, which was then transferred to two additional numbers, culminating in this one, with the scammers being highly convincing and eventually deceiving me into paying them due to false claims of viruses on my computer

The caller claimed to be from Microsoft’s online support. They’ve called multiple times and sounded very convincing. Luckily, my tech-savvy son set me straight.

A caller named Sam from 'Online Support' reached out about an issue with my computer, which I don’t have. The caller ID displayed a local number, but when I asked for a direct line to 'the owner of the computer' for a callback, he provided 020 8133 5558. I suspect it’s a scam.

They requested to see my computer screen due to viruses that the user supposedly cannot detect.

This individual provided the number after I requested their local contact details, claiming to represent a windows support team, but ended the call when I humoured them...

A person claiming to be Jack from On line support Ltd, called me from 02081335558, saying my computer had a virus, but it's a total scam, he said it was windows 10, but I only use Apple products.

A person claiming to be 'John' from Microsoft rang, stating my computer had multiple issues, and when I asked for his number, he provided 02081335558, but 1471 revealed the actual number to be 01670861797, which appears to be a Northumberland-based number with noticeable background noise.

The caller, who introduced himself as Jones Morris from Microsoft, claimed there were multiple error messages. When I asked for his number, he provided 02081335558, but my phone showed the call was from 01564776541. Clearly a scam, as others have noted.

A man with an Indian accent, claiming to be William James, knew my CLSID and got me to look at the event viewer, but i didnt believe him and eventually he gave up and passed me to Victoria Xia, who claimed to be a microsoft employee, but i wasnt having it

A foreign man named John claimed to work for a Microsoft-related company. When I asked for his company registration number, he only gave me his phone number – clearly a scammer. Interestingly, my phone showed the number 01902897952, but when I called back, it didn’t accept unidentified calls. I’ll treat their calls the same way.

Apparently, a scammer claimed my computer was on the verge of crashing, citing a critical condition.

My father, who is 83, received three consecutive calls from a forceful woman claiming to be from Microsoft. She urged him to call 02081335558 and enter a 31-digit code to fix a serious issue with his computer. Fortunately, he contacted me to verify. It's a scam.
