Virgin Media confirmed that a call from this number, 02086729841, is indeed a scam aimed at gaining access to my internet and banking information, and advised me to hang up immediately if contacted again.
This number claimed to be from Virgin Media, stating my IP address was used to hack a government website. They threatened to disconnect my landline and internet within 24 hours unless I called back. I was skeptical and asked for verification, but they didn't provide a useful response. I asked them to call back and contacted Virgin Media, who had no record of the issue. As I suspected, it was a scam. They had been calling repeatedly over two days, leaving messages, which made me initially think there might be a problem.
Got a call yesterday, and they’ve called five times in the past 24 hours. I answered on the fifth attempt, and a recording played, asking me to call another number. They also threatened that my phone would be cut off, but of course, it wasn’t. At the end of the message, someone named Katie got on the line.

Claimed to represent the UK Internet Service Provider, informing me that a government account was compromised using my IP address the previous day. They threatened to disconnect my landline and internet within 24 hours. I promptly ended the call.
They rang me too, unfortunatly couldnt get to the phone in time, but after reading these comments, glad i didnt and now feel armed with good advise, thanks to peoples who coment, forwarned is forarmed
This is a BT scam. They falsely claim to be from BT. Do not provide any information.
I'm furious with the person who's been calling from this number and would love to confront them about their behavior.

A pre-recorded message from a female voice claimed that a hacking attempt had been made from my landline, resulting in a disconnection. This was likely a scam.
Today's calls were relentless, with an automated message claiming my internet connection had been used to hack government websites, followed by a woman with an Asian accent introducing herself as Maria from 'the BT', despite me not being a BT customer, and threatening to cut off my telephone line tomorrow, but she abruptly ended the call when I asked her to verify my internet provider.
Someone rang my home number, and my wife answered. They used the same lines as others. When I asked questions, they claimed to be from BT, which we don’t use.

Had four calls from this number, two recorded, just hung up, one answered, just hung up, fourth one got a Kate, then Maria told us the line would be cut off due to a hacker. Told her it was a scam and put phone down. Do not be taken in its a scam to get control of your computers.
