Expert Opinion
Many people report receiving calls that claim to be TV Licensing and end up uncertain about their legitimacy. The safest approach is to verify the caller by hanging up and dialing the official TV Licensing number listed on the government website. Never share personal details, bank information or passwords over the phone unless you have initiated the call to a known number. If a caller pressures you for immediate payment, threatens legal action or mentions a debt you were unaware of, treat it as a potential scam. Log the number, report it to Action Fraud and consider blocking it. Keep a record of any emails or letters for reference, and always cross‑check with the genuine service.
