My secondary handset, which is flooded with scam calls, got this one, so I let it go unanswered.
A gentleman introduced himself as Matthew from SSE, claiming upcoming 7% reductions in gas and electricity bills and offering a follow‑up call. He inquired about my payment method and the name on the bill, then evaded my question about how he obtained my number before ending the call. A quick search revealed the number is linked to a scam despite his polished tone.
I never answer unfamiliar numbers. Since others flagged it as an energy scam, I blocked it straight away.
