THIS IS NOT FIRST DIRECT! It shares a number with First Direct's fraud team, which is even more alarming. You can recognize it's not them because they fail to ask the proper security questions. They inquired about my bank balance, my overdraft limit, and then requested that I generate a new security code to read out to them. NEVER share those security codes with anyone. I was almost defrauded of £2k by these criminals who had extensive personal information about me, including my mother’s maiden name. EXERCISE CAUTION!

Expert Opinion
The number 0345 610 0100 is the genuine First Direct fraud line, but it’s been widely cloned by scammers. Spoofed calls can appear on your screen as the bank’s own number, so never assume legitimacy just from the caller ID. If you’re asked for security codes, passwords or personal details, hang up straight away and call the bank back on the official number printed on your card or statement. Keep a record of any suspicious texts and report them via your bank’s app. Remember, the bank will never demand a code over the phone – that’s a key red flag.
