Barclays scam call warning – what to do?
Summary — +443457345345
Expert Opinion
Beware of unexpected calls claiming to be from Barclays. These calls often masquerade as fraud‑department alerts, asking for security words, sort codes or card details. Always hang up and dial the official number listed on your bank’s website or the back of your card before sharing any personal details. Genuine Barclays representatives will never pressure you to act immediately or request passwords over the phone. If you suspect a scam, report it to the FCA’s fraud helpline and inform your bank’s online security team. Keeping a record of the call time and number can help investigations.

One of the many GENUINE numbers used by BARCLAYS, so don't ignore or block calls from this bank if you're a customer. HOWEVER, you can't be certain who is actually calling. Scammers have spoofed (cloned) ALL phone numbers used by ALL banks. If you receive any unexpected contact from your bank, end the call, ensure the line is clear, then contact your bank using the number on your bank card. Don't wait, as the call might be genuine and urgent. Be aware that criminals may post fake scam reports about bank numbers to trick bank customers into blocking legitimate calls. Take this advice seriously and verify any calls from your bank.
If you contact your bank to verify whether a call is legitimate, the staff will know if they were attempting to reach you and will either transfer you or address it themselves. Call centre staff might not be familiar with all the numbers used by the bank. If they confirm it’s a scam, it doesn’t necessarily mean the number itself is fraudulent; spoofed genuine business numbers pose a significant issue for both companies and their clients.

They have just scammed me out of 200 pounds with this number.
Claimed to be from Barclays, mentioning suspicious activity on my card. He introduced himself as Gary Clayton from the fraud department, extension 306. I told him I'd contact Barclays directly. While trying to reach Barclays, he called three times, insisting I needed to speak with him as someone was trying to steal money, and I'd be liable if it went through. When I finally got through to Barclays, they informed me they don't use extension numbers and have no employee named Gary Clayton in fraud.
User reported a bad experience
A call was made to me, inquiring about a transaction in Luton and requesting a £3000 loan, neither of which I had done; the caller claimed they would cancel my card and send a replacement, but this was later confirmed as a fraudulent attempt by Barclays Fraud department.
