Openreach, on behalf of Talk Talk, contacted me regarding the reactivation of a new service, and I confirmed I was ready to proceed
Openreach appointment texts – real or spoof?
Summary — +447786202608
Expert Opinion
Picture this: a text arrives claiming to be from Openreach, urging you to confirm a fibre broadband appointment. The message includes accurate details such as your postcode and scheduled slot, which can make it feel genuine. However, scammers often spoof numbers to harvest personal data or push unwanted upgrades. Always verify by contacting your provider through an official channel before replying or clicking any links. Keep records of the date, time and provider mentioned, and compare them with any recent service orders you have. If the request seems odd, ignore it or forward the SMS to the provider’s support line. Staying cautious reduces the risk of spoofing and unwanted charges.

Recent Reports for 07786 202608
Like many others, I haven’t requested a new router from TalkTalk or BT, nor have I received one – it’s highly suspicious. I’m not responding and have blocked the number. If it’s genuine, they can contact me on the landline, but I’d still be wary.
I received a text similar to others: Openreach, on behalf of Talk Talk, eager to activate my new service. Given that I recently received a new router from Talk Talk, I initially thought it might be legitimate. However, since I've already set up the new one and it’s functioning, there's nothing needing activation as my ISP hasn't changed. I can't recall if I've shared my mobile number with my provider, but if I haven't, I would be quite annoyed as I'm on the TPS list!
I’m sceptical about it being BT Openreach. They usually communicate via email.

OpenReach utilises the 07786 number to inform about engineering tasks. They text updates, and in my situation, notified me to set up my new TalkTalk router.
A message about fibre switching, instructing to keep the router on. This comes after a new router, email, and letter. Seems genuine, but if not, they’ve put in significant effort.
Fake Openreach call
It was definitely a legitimate Openreach installation message.
Received a suspicious text claiming to be from Openreach regarding fibre broadband installation, requesting confirmation, which appears to be a scam given the personal nature of the number used
A call was received claiming to upgrade my internet, but I promptly ended the call, and subsequently, a text from 447786202608 was received, urging me to call back or face disconnection, which I deem a threatening tactic.
Following a similiar text, i contacted Talk Talk and they confirmed that they are upgrading to Fibre Broadband at no extra cost to me.
At six in the morning, I received a text that woke me up. It claimed, 'I AM FROM TALK TALK, CLICK THIS VIMEO VIDEO FOR NEW UPGRADE ON MODEM IN 31ST OF MARCH'. Why would TalkTalk direct me to a Vimeo video? I don't need an upgrade; I can only afford the most basic internet.
I received a text identical to the one mentioned, purportedly from Openreach, instructing me to respond with 'READY'. Since I haven't acquired a new router, this is clearly a scam, likely involving costly text replies. Best to disregard it.
Regarding this number, it seems to be a problem
A call was made from this number, supposedly from Openreach, claiming to install a new router, but it appears to be a phishing scam with a suspicious link.
Got a text from this number saying it’s Openreach, arranging full fibre broadband installation on 19 Mar between 1PM-6PM at *** 0HU, asking to reply CONFIRM if okay or 'let us know if you need to change anything'. Since it’s a personal number, seems dodgy.
