I've been getting daily calls about a negative balance related to an Airbnb experience I purchased. The seller's account was hacked, and they refunded my money in 2023. Since January, I've been receiving emails from PayPal stating that the buyer is disputing the sale and requesting a refund, which is incorrect. I'm still trying to resolve this with PayPal through the host, as Airbnb mentioned I violated their terms and conditions. The seller claims to have been hacked while on holiday and is contacting PayPal to clear my debt. I'm still waiting for a resolution. Does anyone know how to contact a real person at PayPal? All the numbers I've tried only lead to automated systems. I'm even unsure if this number is legitimate, as the voicemail sounds automated. I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a hacker. This situation is incredibly stressful.

Following a missed landline call from 08000857608, I returned the call using my mobile while withholding my number, only to be met with a recorded message claiming the number was invalid and prompting me to dial an alternative 'ten-digit number associated with my PayPal account', a request that seemed dubious. Given my PayPal account has no negative balance, I am inclined to believe this is a scam. The notion that a negative balance would justify such a call, as suggested by some comments, appears to be part of the deception.

PayPal actually makes these calls when there's a negative balance on an account, often due to a debit being declined by the bank or credit card after a payment has been made, and they try to automatically debit the balance several times before making the call
Contrary to being a scam, 0800 085 7608 is a legitimate number for addressing negative PayPal account balances; after returning their call and completing the DPA process, the agent had accurate information about my account, emphasizing the importance of answering such calls to avoid involvement from debt collectors.
