This occured to me on Boxing Day 2024 .. I only realised it was a scam when I checked the number with this website, and then I saw the stories especially the one from 5 months ago. My IT expert will be checking my laptop for this all later today, so I hope the results are the same. Oddly, they never asked for a bank account detail, but said I could pay £399.00 for the three year arrangement from PayPal. I also could not see how all PC's in the house could be affected (which they said they would be), as they are not all linked to the same server. Yes, advice is do not call the fake Microsoft number on the warning screen (0808 501 3944) just switch (literally) your PC off, as the cursor does not work when the PC is locked up.
Following a computer lockout, I was deceived by a fake Microsoft logo and contacted this number, which claimed to be a legitimate Microsoft support team, granting them unintended access to my computer and resulting in a fraudulent offer of regular check-ups for a substantial fee, prompting me to alert my bank and cancel my card
Following on from my previous message, they claim to be representating envisionsec.com
Hundreds of pounds were charged to me after I fell victim to a scam where my computer was supposedly locked by Microsoft, and the scammers took control of my PC to carry out various tasks.
Fraud - £394 was taken.
After acidentally clicking a picture on Facebook, a warning came up saying my machine was being infected, and they gave me a number to call, i rang it and got through to somebody who said they were from the Apple Tech Departement, but it was a scam and my machine got compromised, dont respond to any warnings from this number
They are targeting old and vulnerable people, and stealing their money
On 24/08/2024, I was contacted by this number, and due to my computer screen being locked, I unfortunately allowed them to gain access and provided them with my driver details
I just got scammed...reading the previous comments. Definitely, avoid this number.
Clearly a scam. Searching 'Microsoft scam' reveals that Microsoft never locks your screen or asks you to call them. They also provide advice on unlocking your screen. They caught me at a vulnerable time, and now I’m waiting for my PC technician to inspect it.
Additionally, I mentioned in my previous comment that there are two more numbers linked to this scam: 0808 501 3575 and 0808 501 5604. Hopefully, this information is useful.
You should be aware of this scam, they claim to be from Microsoft, and try to get acces to your computer, and then they try to charge you ridiculous prices to unblock it, and also try to get your bank details
This is a DANGEROUS SCAM alot like the microsoft computer scam, they will try to get payment details to "release" your laptop etc, worryingly they also got my wifes driving licence details, have reported to cyber crime police & to fraud squad
A warning appeared on my screen claiming to be from 'Microsoft', triggering alarm bells about a virus attack. The 'Microsoft' page appeared very convincing. After calling the number, they accessed my computer. Upon consulting with my computer centre, I was informed that it was a scam. I disconnected my computer and took it to them for cleaning. While I was doing this, the scammer called again, questioning what I was doing. I informed them that they were scamming, and the conversation abruptly ended. The initial warning is quite deceiving. My computer technicians removed the malware but noted that the scammers would have installed programs to track my activities.
The caller's intention was to gain unauthorised access to my computer and banking information.
