Expert Opinion
It's clear that the number +448438869378 is being used by scammers to defraud people, often posing as Barclays. The typical scam involves a text message alerting the recipient to a supposed transaction, usually a large amount, at places like IKEA or Traveloka. The message will ask you to confirm the transaction by replying or calling the number. Many users have reported that the text appeared to come from their genuine Barclays contact number, which is a common tactic to gain trust. However, calling the number often leads to long hold times, and if you do get through, the scammers will try to obtain your account and security details. To stay safe, never call this number, and if you receive such a message, verify it directly with your bank using a known, trusted number. It's also a good idea to report these incidents to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Be vigilant and don't fall for these scams.

I called the number, as it appeared in the same text message thread as genuine messages from Barclays. After being on hold for 20 minutes without an answer, I hung up and contacted Barclays through their app, confirming that this was indeed a scam.
I rang Barclays’ fraud department. Such calls should be reported to Action Fraud at 0300 123 2040, free from mobile phones.
