Expert Opinion
Heads up: calls from +44 8442 843421 are almost always automated prompts about a supposed text message, urging you to press 1 to hear it. These recordings are a classic scam tactic that can route you onto premium‑rate lines or harvest personal data. Never press any keys; let the call go to voicemail and verify any claimed message by contacting the alleged sender directly using a known phone number. Install call‑blocking tools, flag the number as spam, and report it to your phone provider or a consumer protection agency. Staying silent and skeptical is the safest way to avoid unwanted charges.

On 26 08 2025 I received two calls within an hour; each rang just once before the line went dead.
The caller keeps ringing at different times and days, never leaving a message. Looks like another scam, so I’ve blocked it.
Two calls arrived within an hour or so, both silent and without a message – very annoying.

I got five calls this afternoon from an unknown number, none of which left a message, so it appears to be a scam call.
Someone pretended to be South West Water and asked for payment on a bill.
This is a text‑to‑voice service that reads SMS messages to landlines; in my case it delivered a South West Water alert about low water pressure.
Fifteen calls have hit my landline over three days at my Derbyshire home. With caller display I see the number, but if I don’t recognise it I wait for a message. When none is left, it’s clearly suspicious – they don’t want me to know who they are or what they’re selling.
At 10 pm I received my fifth call of the day: a single ring that cut off immediately. Living in the far southwest suggests they're testing a new area. If it kept ringing I'd answer and say ‘Go forth and multiply’. BT and TPS need to sort this out, trace the callers and prosecute these idiots. You have the technology—just act.
I ignored a dubious request to call back for a spoken text message.
A fraudulent call pretended to be BT, harassing us at 8:24 pm, then again at 8:24 am the next day, and continued until we blocked the number.
It rang six times, each with only a couple of rings.
Appears to be a scam – it rings a few times before disconnecting.
There were eight calls today, allegedly from South West Water.
What a nuisance – they keep calling, hanging up after a couple of rings. Sounds like a foreign call centre meeting its quota.
I called back and got a greeting saying "Welcome to the Text Message Delivery Store", which sounds like a text‑to‑speech service. There should be an opt‑in/opt‑out option, but I can’t find how to use it.
We've been getting up to five unwanted calls a day from 08442843421 for the past three days, despite being on the TPS. Every time we answer, the line drops instantly, clearly an automated system. What purpose does this serve beyond harassment, and how can we block it?
The number is driving me mad – it rings twice then stops, yet it rang eight times last night and three times already this morning.
The phone rings two or three times and then cuts out, repeatedly and without any message.

Throughout the day, I've received multiple calls from this number and another, instructing me to press 1, but I'm not complying.
Starting at 20.00 hrs, I received four consecutive calls; a message instructed me to press 1 to access a text message, but I'm wary of potential scams and won't comply.
I didn't answer the call as I recognized the number as a scam
The message indicated it was from an automated SMS service.
I recieved a recorded message about a delivery, but it sounded like a scam so i rang off
This number is used by water companies, such as South West and Bournemouth Water, for sending SMS updates. They often inform about water issues or remind you about bills, especially if you pay quarterly or half-yearly. Calls typically come every 3 or 6 months if your landline is registered with the utility company.
