Why scammers spoof Scotiabank numbers and how to stop them!

Expert Opinion
Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the calls flashing Scotiabank on the caller ID are often a mask for fraud. The number +1‑866‑267‑8842 shows up repeatedly at night, asking for personal details or mortgage renewal info. Spoofing lets scammers mimic legitimate banks, so never share your name, address, postal code, or account numbers until you’ve called the bank back using the official number on its website. Enable your phone’s spam filter, block the offending line, and report the incident to your bank’s fraud department and the Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre. Staying skeptical and verifying independently cuts the risk.
